Abstract
The striped field mouse(Apodemus agrarius Pallas) infected naturally with Hantaan virus are the small rodents living in field and mountains around rural and urban areas of Korea. It has also been found to cause the hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, and may it possible to used as model in pathogenic and metabolic research. In this study, ¥á-amylase isozyme that can serve as excellent markers of gene function was used to compare the electrophoretic patterns involving the measurement of ¥á-amylase activity. We observed that ¥á-amylase activity in diabetic mouse (KK) were higher than those in striped field mice (SFM) and Sprague dawley. In particular, ¥á-amylase specific activity in the parotid gland of SFM, ¥á-amylase activity showed a higher level than those in the other animals, but their levels from the serum and the liver of SFM were low when compare to those in other animals. It were appeared to be both species-and tissue-specific difference among the animal and tissue in the analysis of electrophoretic patterns. Thus, the result suggest that there are different metabolitic pathway of ¥á-amylase between SFM and other animals. It will also be necessary to study continuous on the physiological role of ¥á-amylase which will provide a useful information to researchers who work with the SFM.
